I'm sure we'll all keep finding cool Beach Boys stuff at youtube.com. Why don't we post any particularly interesting findings here, just to keep things clean. Here are the results of my latest diggings: "The Lonely Sea" from the movie The Girls on the Beach. What I'm assuming is a promo video for "Long Promised Road" with lots of cool footage of Carl wandering around the city. This version of the song sounds like it has a different instrumental break. "Don't Go Near the Water" with Blondie and Ricky. (Were they with The Beach Boys at that time?) And some early 80's news footage of the 'Boys demonstrating their different parts for "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring." I was also going to post the opening credits for the movie Troop Beverly Hills, featuring the alternate version of "Make It Big," but it looks like that clip has been removed. "You Tube" had the video for "California Dreamin'" a few weeks ago but I could not find it today. I guess some video postings come and go. "Getcha Back" was also on then was lost for a while. |

Here are a couple more:Here's Denny's wonderful rendition of "You Are So Beautiful." I just know some of you will hate me for this, but here's David Lee Roth's goofy "California Girls" video. I dig those girls! A 1979 TV performance of "Angel Come Home." Looks like it might be the same show that "Here Comes the Night" was on. [This message has been edited by Socks (edited 06-22-2006).] |

That "Jasper Eich" guy has a lot of cool stuff. He has a few songs from an australia show in 1978. It's pretty interesting. Carl seems pretty drunk, and he even swears at one point. Dennis sounds horrible in that "Angel Come Home" clip. Where was it taken from? There is another guy with the username "thebeachboys". He has a few songs from Washington, 1980. He also has a truly awful version of "Don't Worry Baby" from Long Beach, 1981. There is also a guy who has a homemade music video. The song playing is "Sail On Sailor", but it's very different from the commercially released version. |

After watching several of the Knebworth videos on You Tube I almost forgot that The Beach Boys, besides having great voices, were good musicians. Dennis really pounds the drums and Carl sounds great on guitar (see the Knebworth videos for Darlin" & School Days as examples) |

"Angel Come Home" is from a 1979 Midnight Special that the BBs hosted...pretty fascinating (especially the part where Al Jardine is trying to introduce a band while Dennis surreptitiously grabs his butt!).Here's something more interesting...somebody posted some handheld video from a recent Mike 'n' Bruce concert, and on the version of "California Girls", even though Mike appears to be singing, it's not his voice that's heard. I know he'd had some voice trouble, but I didn't know he was miming his parts (you could hear his voice a tiny bit in the second verse, suggesting that he was being doubled by a band member and pushed down in the mix). |

Here's an amusing little piece. It's a segment from "DTV," which was a show that aired on The Disney Channel in the 80's. It's a music video for "Catch a Wave" set to clips of Goofy trying to surf. |

That "Catch A Wave" clip brought back memories!! Do you guys remember when The Disney Channel actually used to be good? Anyway, I just wanted to point out that you can get different results if you type in different things. If you type in "thebeachboys" and just "beachboys" you get a lot of different videos. |

I remember when The Disney Channel was an actual premium channel instead of a basic cable kids channel. Back when they showed good movies and had good original programming.Speaking of Disney, I like how they play Beach Boys music all the time at the California Adventure theme park. At the Paradise Pier section, they play carnival versions of BB songs. I was surprised to hear "You're So Good To Me" in the mix. I keep thinking they should add "Disney Girls" in there somewhere. Anyway, here's another DTV video, this time of "I Get Around." It even includes the show's opening theme. |

Check this one out, just posted, from January '77: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cl8XPubyt5A&search=%22beach%20boys%22 Brian gets into it with Mike onstage, steals his microphone, belts out "Back Home", and unceremoniously dumps the bass back on Mike, who then tries out a few licks (!). |

I just watched those two songs from Largo, 1977. Watching "Back Home" was weird. Brian and Mike get into an argument during the intro, and Al tries to cover for them. The intro seems to go on for two minutes before Brian sings. Brian then smacks the microphone really hard, and literally SCREAMS the words. The "You Are So Beautiful" clip was very touching, but sad at the same time. You could tell in Dennis's eyes that he was pretty messed up. I have a question. Why does Dennis yell "God damn It" half way through the song? |

Here's some more stuff. The first is an interview with Brian in 1988, accompanied by Landy. Is it just me, or did Brian not quite seem like Brian around this time in his life? He seems too "chatty" and not like the shy, introverted Brian we usually hear now (or in the 60's). Also, look at how submissive Brian is and how he droops his head when Landy is talking. Kinda creepy. And here's the video for Barenaked Ladies' live version of "Brian Wilson." I like the lyrics on this song. I believe there's also a seperate video for the studio version, but this video is very visually interesting. |

I looked all over for that Brian interview. I couldn't find it. I found a few interesting things though. I found an appearence the beach boys did on The Mike Douglas show. They do a live version of "Never Learn Not To Love", with Carl on drums! I found a version of "Keepin' The Summer Alive" from Washington 1980, in GREAT quality. There is also a guy there with the username "AKAWarlrus". He has the beach boys set at Live Aid. For once, Al actually remembers the words to "Wouldn't It Be Nice"! |

There is something interesting I noticed about the "Back Home" clip from Maryland 1977. Other than Brian shouting out the lyrics, his voice actually doesn't sound bad. He doesn't have any of the "raspy" quality he had on the "15 Big Ones" album. |

Here are a couple of clips from Mike & Bruce on MSNBC's Imas. The first clip is their live performance of "Good Timin'," which actually sounds pretty good. The second clip is an interview with Mike, demonstrating why he's not too popular among the serious fans. Check 'em out quick before MSNBC has them pulled off YouTube. |

Both interesting clips - thanks, Socks! I had a thought while they were doing "Good Timin'" - they really nailed the sound and arrangment of that - which is in itself an acheivement - but that brings up a point - outside of the "disco" arrangement of "Here Comes The Night" - have the touring Beach Boys ever really messed with an arrangement of their songs? Some artists, like John Mellencamp, will really screw around with some of their classic songs in an attempt to make them fresh; but the touring Beach Boys and even Brian kind've just do rubber-stamp copies of the recorded versions, don't they? (not that there's anything wrong with that) |

Bret, I can think of a few times the band has changed their songs. On the 1973 "In Concert" lp, the arrangment of "Help Me Rhonda" was changed to more of what I'd call a "jam". It's a lot more blusey, and more "fun" overall. Also, Al changed the words to "She was gonna be my WOMEN, and I was gonna be her man". You forgot about "Surfin'" from the "Summer In Paradise" lp. I have an interesting question. Does their version of "Barbra Ann" count? They NEVER performed the studio arrangment live. It was always a "regular" electric guitar version. |

Here's a little more Imas action with Mike & The 'Boys singing "Make Love, Not War." Not bad! Here's a short backstage interview from 1981. Everyone but Carl is present. Brian and Dennis sound really tired. I sincerely apologize for this one in advance. I couldn't resist. If you like David Lee Roth's version of "California Girls" (and I know you do!), you're gonna love David Hasseloff's version! I agree with the first comment on the page. |

I did a search for "Carl Wilson" on You Tube and found 2 interesting video clips. One was a black & white clip from the early '60's where the Boys (in suits) sing "In My Room". The other was from a short lived sitcom called "You Again?" with John Stamos and Jack Klugman. This one has Mr. Stamos playing drums with Brian, Carl, Mike, Al and Bruce singing "Surfin' USA". |

I just found two pretty cool videos. Jasper Eich has "Country Pie" from Austrailia posted, and there is another video of the original five members(no Bruce) on GoodMorning America, from 1980. Dennis is VERY VERY drunk on GoodMorning America, and actually appears to fall asleep at one point. |

Here it is, Mike's legendary rant at the Rock and Roll hall of fame in 1987. Wow.And here's an amateur video of Mike & Bruce performing "Good Timin'" with John Stamos singing lead. Finally, here's a clip from the US version of Whose Line Is it Anyway? where Brad and Wayne are supposed to sing in the style of The Beach Boys, but they mess it up right at the beginning. It's still pretty funny, though. There's another episode where Wayne and Chip imitate the BB, and I found the segment, but the BB part wasn't included! You can still hear Ryan and Colin make a joke about it, though. |

Hey, "coolbert1" has a few new videos. The most interesting clip is a tv interview and Al and Bruce did. The interview was done after a 1982 show at Blossom Music Center. The news brodcast also has a clip of what I assume is the concert. |

I just found a version of "Wouldn't It Be Nice" from Melbourne, 1978. Japer Eich has it. It's pretty sloppy. Carl is acting pretty abnoxious with his backing vocals. There is something interesting about this clip. AT the start, Brian starts to sing, and he's doing it fairly enthusiasticlly. Then, Mike gives Brian a really mean look, and Brian shuts up for the rest of the song. It's kind of sad in a way. |

Just saw the Melbourne "Wouln't It Be Nice". At one point Dennis seems to forget to come back in with his drums (unless he was trying for a real dramatic pause in the song)and Brian sits down for the last part of the song. The person who posted these Austrailian clips said it was a "disasterous tour" can anyone expand on that? |

Well to be fair to Mike, if you match Brian's lips to the audible vocals, he's completely massacring the first and second lines and singing a totally different melody. That said, he looks like he's nailing the rather complicated bass part (though it's hard to hear), which is neat to see. There's a good YouTube shot of Brian and Al doubling each other singing WIBN at LiveAid. Much better, and Brian looks great. |

wow! Very trippy. The "Crocodile Rock" one is downright weird...they're all dressed in hats, sunglasses and weird clothes, no doubt in tribute to Elton. Al's the only one who looks good (actually quite trippy-cool), but Carl looks, unusually like he's having a good time. The "Problem Child" video is cute, and Bruce Johnston takes a few pratfalls in it. "Summer of Love" is nauseating and it's (probably deliberately) difficult to tell the BBs, their younger sideman, and the Baywatch cast apart. Surprising to see Brian there. |

I just saw all those videos. I saw the "Crocodile Rock" video once a loooooong time ago, but I didn't realize it was for this song.As for "Problem Child," at least the song is better than the movie. I still don't like "Summer of Love," but it is interesting to see Brian thrown in the mix. Didn't John Stamos actually direct this one? Or even all three? I think I saw Matt Jardine in this one, too. Still waiting for the "Somewhere Near Japan" video. |

Brian's appearence in the Summer Of Love video confuses me. The "Summer In Paradise" album was the only studio album in the groups history that Brian had absolutly nothing to do with. He appears in name only, for the credits to "Surfin", but I don't count that. He always had very little to do with most of their post "Smiley Smile" albums, but he always had at least SOMETHING to do in those. |

The other day, I found a really cool video of the beach boys rehearsing for their 1977 tour. Brian is with them. There is a narrator throughout the whole thing, but you can make out a few songs underneath the voice. The cool thing about it is that you can see what might be the only known film of them doing "Love Is A Woman". |
